Frequently Asked Questions

What is Canes Society?

Down Arrow FAQ

The Canes Society is Miami NIL Collective and Canes Community that unites boosters, fans, alumni, and athletes in a way never seen before. Our team will provide Canes fans and business partners with a safe, legal, and transparent platform to directly support the athletes they cheer on yearly.

How does The Canes Society Work?

Down Arrow FAQ

The Cane Society will support Miami Hurricanes athletes in several ways. We will enter into Name-Image-Likeness Agreements (“NIL Agreements”) with Miami student-athletes and utilize those publicity rights by promoting the student-athlete on our website, social media, at Cane Society events, and in other ways.

We will build the Canes Society through our Canes Society Community Season Pass. This pass will provide access to the country's most engaged Canes fan community, complete with unique content, the ability to connect with Canes across the country, submit and vote on proposals, and much more!

In addition, the community will partner with national and local Miami businesses and assist in partnering Miami Hurricanes student-athletes with those organizations that best fit their goals as a Hurricane.

Finally, we are open to one-time and annual donations from anyone wishing to support Canes athletes!  Contact us here for more information.

Does The Canes Society comply with local, national and NCAA rules?

Down Arrow FAQ

Yes! The mission of The Canes Society is legally authorized by the Miami Hurricanes Athletics Compensation Rights Act (effective July 1, 2021, amended April 18, 2022). Under this Act, individuals or entities acting independently or “collectively” may compensate a student-athlete for the license of their publicity rights. The Act prohibits regulatory bodies, such as the NCAA, from infringing upon the student-athlete’s right to receive NIL compensation. Finally, the Act bars the NCAA from penalizing University of Miami and its athletic programs for any activities it permits.

The Canes Society is a limited liability company in good standing.

Is Canes Society an “official” entity of University of Miami?

Down Arrow FAQ

No. Under the Miami Intercollegiate Athletics Compensation Rights Act, a NIL program must be a separate legal entity from a university – the Act prohibits universities from being parties to NIL Agreements with student-athletes. However, the Act explicitly allows communication between the University of Miami and the Canes Society. It authorizes the University of Miami to facilitate student-athletes and Canes Society engagement.

How can I get more involved?

Down Arrow FAQ

Whether a current Canes student, alumni, fan, or business, feel free to contact The Canes Society directly and express your desire to assist. This is a family effort, and we need Canes worldwide to be involved in carrying out the mission of the Canes Society.
